SIDI #328 Warm Socks with Thermolite

The special feature of Thermolite is the specially developed ADVANSA fibers with hollow core that trap air for better insulation. The result is a particularly lightweight, high-performance fabric that provides warmth and comfort, even in wet conditions. The developers at INVISTA were inspired by Mother Nature: they discovered that the fur of polar bears is made of hollow hairs, which provides particularly good warmth, and tried to transfer this property to the new fabric. Another plus point is the short drying time. Compared to other insulating fabrics, it is possible to save 20%, and even 50% compared to cotton. This is made possible by the larger surface area, which transports moisture much faster to the surface where it can evaporate, without the need for additional chemical treatment. In addition to the classic areas of application in clothing or gloves, Thermolite is now also increasingly being used in inlet sleeping bags and insulating sleeping mats in order to exploit the advantages of the material here as well.
